Emma and Chris celebrated their marriage with a winter wedding last December in Minnetonka at the Marriott Southwest. They both got ready at the hotel. Emma did a quick first sight with her dad and brother before the seeing Chris for the first time. Emma's mom was her maid of honor. Chris' best friend came over from Germany - along with many of Chris' family members and friends - to be his best man. A friend officiated the ceremony and there were a handful of heartfelt toasts during dinner. You could tell that Emma and Chris really value the people in their lives, and the couple held them in high regard throughout their wedding day.
It's nice - especially in winter months - to have one location to stick to and really explore in the photographs and throughout the day. We still got to go outside many times: for portraits of the couple after their first sight, wedding party portraits, and during the bride and groom's photo finale towards the end of the evening. No matter the weather or temperature, I'll always do some portraits outside for that nice natural light. The more variety throughout the wedding day, the better. Also, I love "checking in" with the couple photographically as their day goes on, documenting the two of them together at the beginning and end of the their wedding day as well as a few times throughout. It gives them a chance to check in with each other too, and just be together for a bit. The day, I learned, flies by so fast and there's so much going on, that those little moments can be really grounding.
Emma and Chris had a July engagement session at St. Anthony Main and the Stone Arch Bridge in Minneapolis. Those images proved to be a perfect balance to their winter wedding one.
