Fall Wedding at Van Dusen Mansion
Scott and Frank's late fall / early winter wedding at the Van Dusen Mansion in Minneapolis was a surprise bonus wedding for me. The couple got in touch and booked me as their photographer about a month or two prior to the date - and I was so happy to be chosen to document their day!
All the family and wedding party were so fun and celebratory and just a hoot to hang out with throughout the day - really warming up that chilly November Saturday. Scott's family is from Minnesota (his siblings live elsewhere and flew in) and Frank had his best friend to stand up with him, plus other friends in attendance. It was incredibly heartwarming to see how Scott's parents embraced and loved their new son-in-law Frank - he truly is another son to them! Scott's dad even learned and practiced some Spanish to be able to speak to Frank during his toast in Frank's first language. The grooms had many of their friends involved in the day, too - the day of coordinator, the DJ, and the videographer were all friends of the couple - team effort!
The Van Dusen Mansion in Minneapolis is a lovely location - full of rooms with dramatic window light and lots of charm. Then all around the mansion are beautiful photo opportunities, so you can pretty much stay on site and capture a variety of looks. We did walk down the road with Scott and Frank briefly before their ceremony - because the sun had set - for some nighttime shots with a little downtown skyline behind them. The mansion's set up keeps the wedding guests moving as well - from the ceremony site to the cocktail hour (downstairs in this case) to dinner in the nearby ballroom to the dance in the carriage house. This keeps it interesting for guests and avoids them sitting in one spot for hours and hours.
I'm so thankful to have been chosen as Frank and Scott's wedding photographer and loved loved LOVED documenting this momentous celebration in their lives!
